Mauro Simões aka FÜR
Mauro Simões, known artistically as FÜR, is a contemporary visual artist based in Lisbon whose work fuses the authenticity of street culture with the sophistication of fine art. Born in Angola in 1978 and raised in the Amadora area of Sintra, he began his journey as a graffiti writer in 1994—developing a distinct visual identity marked by style, flow, and purpose.
A graduate of the esteemed António Arroio School of Art (Design, 1996), FÜR is known for his technical mastery of spray paint. His work—whether figurative or abstract—reveals a level of detail and control that challenges traditional notions of the medium. Clean lines, layered materials, and experimental techniques like fire, bleach, and raw canvas manipulation are hallmarks of his evolving process.
Through his portraits, Mauro captures the silent strength and emotional gravity of everyday people—transforming them into visual testaments of presence, resilience, and inner beauty. His abstract and symbolic series push even further, using shape, form, and texture to explore identity, energy, and the invisible forces that shape us.
FÜR’s work isn’t just visual—it’s visceral. He paints with the intention to elevate, to dignify, and to remind viewers of the unseen power within themselves.
